What is the role of the teacher?
The role of the teacher has become far more complex than what it used to be. Traditionally, the teacher's role was to 'teach' the students. Students were passive learners. Today, teachers are viewed as "catalyst, guide, interpreter, and facilitator for a process."(Rallis, 1989). She also stresses that the students are not the only learners; the whole school community must see themselves as learners.

It is hard to spot the teacher. The students are taking ownership of their
learning. The cartoon shows a few students presenting their learning, while
their peers analyze it.
The following is a list of those principles as developed by the APA (cited in McCombs & Whisler, 1997, p. 5-6): .
